LANGUAGE ARTS & LITERACY

The goal of the Sequim School District Language Arts and Literacy program is to help students develop the skills that promote critical analysis of literacy texts, informational texts, and the spoken word, while elevating the skills for students to become accomplish practitioners of the written language.  Collaboration, discussion, and rigorous expectations are the core of student instruction as these skills are learned and developed at each grade level.

Learning Standards

Rigorous grade-level expectations are articulated in the Washington State ELA K-12 Learning Standards for reading, writing, speaking and listening, and language. These expectations guide instruction in both language arts and the content areas. Students meet the increasing complexity of the outcomes detailed in the standards by engaging in close reading, clear writing, language development, and critical thinking, across each year, and progressing from Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade.
